Fifa has proposed that teams should be temporarily allowed to make up to five substitutions to ease the upcoming fixture congestion when leagues across Europe and the rest of the world resumes.

Leagues around the world have been halted by the Corona Virus pandemic.

The temporary substitution will be implemented by organizers of different footballing competition which will take effect until the end of 2021 season.

Fifa also added that football should only resume when the government and health authorities say it is now safe to resume football fixtures and it will not disrupt services being delivered to the populace.

Safety of footballers is one of Fifa’s main concern. The reason for the proposed 5 substitutions is because of number of matches which will be played over a short period of time.

The proposal will have to be approved by International Football Association Board (IFAB), football rule making body, and whether it will be implemented is based on discretion of various league or competition organisers.

It is understood that IFAB will give a positive response based on the current situation and the need for players welfare.
