Police said on Sunday that at least two children were killed by the floods due to heavy rain on Saturday in Uganda, western Rubanda.
Kigezi District Police spokesman Elly Maate said in a statement that two female teenagers were washed away by running water in Karengyere village, Mukosubu County, during heavy rain.
“Muco police learned that two female teenagers were washed away by running water in a downpour yesterday (Saturday).
“The body was retrieved after death,” Maate said.
According to the Meteorological Department, some areas of East African countries, especially the western and eastern regions, are currently under normal or higher than normal rainfall, with devastating effects. Uganda ’s National Meteorological Administration warned in its seasonal rainfall outlook from March to May that increased rainfall in several parts of the country could lead to disasters such as landslides and floods, resulting in casualties and property loss.
