Reports from Sokoto state indicate that hundreds of villagers have crossed the border into Niger to seek refuge after being chased away by bandits.
A spokesman for the migrants said that the village is now under the control of the armed bandits in the villages of Sabon-Birni-Gobir Local Government Area.
According to sources, the insurgents entered the villages to avoid constant attacks by the Nigerian military in neighboring Zurmi forest in the neighboring state of Zamfara State.
Last week, the Nigerian government said it had held a special meeting with stakeholders to discuss attacks on Isa and Sabon Birni in Sokoto State.
On Friday night, April 24, late in the day, gunmen attacked some villages in the new Gobir area of Sokoto state, killing at least two people and wounding several others.
