Edo Primary Elections: APC governors to set up a meeting with Tinubu over Obaseki

It was reported that APC governors is set to meet the party National Chairman Bola Tinubu

This meeting is scheduled to hold in order make a last ditch effort to ensure that the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, wins the party ticket for the upcoming primary elections which is scheduled to hold today (Sunday).

It was not known if the Governors would meet with Tinubu at his residence in Ikoyi or if it would be a video conference meeting.

It was reported that the meeting was at the request of the governors, stating that a delegation of the governors would meet with Tinubu to seek his assistance for a preparatory discussion with President Muhammad Buhari on the issue.

It was reported that the purpose of the meeting was to seek the help of the party chairman, Bola Tinubu to intervene in the crisis of the APC in Edo state.

Part of the conditions being considered, which the governor is expected to fulfil, is to swear in the remaining house of Assembly members who have yet to be sworn in.

A year after the house of Assembly members were elected, only 10 out of 24 members of the house of Assembly were elected into the State House of Assembly.

This is as a result of the crisis that arose because of the issuance of proclamation of the Assembly by the governor.

In defense of his action, the governor said some of the State Assembly members who have assumed office refused to be sworn in.

Discussing about the peace move, a reliable source disclosed that ” the train had already left the station and it is too late to find a common ground Governor Obaseki’s issue.

Right now it is left for all governorship aspirant to go and test their level of popularity in the field because that’s how democracy works.

During the conversation, another party source said that nothing is cast in stone as far as politics is concerned. This means that enemies can become friends with the right motivation. Besides friends and enemies are not permanent.

An APC governor who contributed on the issue said that he and his colleagues with do everything within their power to help Governor Obaseki in what they see as a gang up.

A few days ago, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who of recent defected from the PDP to the APC, had declared himself as the emerging candidate chosen by seven APC aspirants.

He made the announcement while speaking to journalists after showing his interest after buying the primary nomination ticket at the APC National Headquarters last week.

It was reported the result of the party’s National Working Committee meeting where it was unanimously agreed that the selection of the party’s candidate would be a direct mode.

Oshiomhole, who was succeeded by Obaseki as the governor of Edo State, has fracas with his successor over political problems in the state.

Both of them had on many instances accused each other of planning to stir up crisis in the state.

Oshiomhole had alleged that Obaseki and a few governors were ganging up to push him out as the national chairman of the ruling party not until the intervention the President some months ago.

President Buhari summoned the aggrieved members of the party, which included some ministers, governors and members of the NWC from convening the party’s National Executive Committee meeting where Oshiomhole was supposed to be sacked.
