The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, revealed to newsmen that the Nigerian army have detained no fewer than 24 suspected kidnappers in two weeks of operation in Owo and Akoko areas of Ondo State.
For the past three weeks, two senior military officers were kidnapped in the Akoko area on their way from Abuja. Before the victims were later rescued.
Buratai gave a written speech during a courtesy visit to Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, who is the Olowo of Owo kingdom.
Brigadier, General, Zakan Abubakar who represented General Buratai during the visit, said that based on the directives from the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, who disclosed that, troops have been deployed to places like, Arimojiga, Owo to Akoko areas, while up to 24 kidnappers have been captured during the course of thier 2 weeks operation between Owo and Akoko areas.
Oba Ogunoye who welcome the delegation, said that the community will support the army with whatever they need on the fight against kidnapping, terrorism, banditry as well as other security issues facing Nigeria.
He said that the performance of the Nigerian Army at solving the problem of insecurity the under the auspices of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai is highly appreciated.
