Former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzo Kalu finally leaves prison after court order

The former Abia state Governor, Orji Uzo Kalu has finally been freed following his release from Kuje prison by the Nigeria Correctional Service on Wednesday.

This was in line with the Tuesday court order of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The NCS spokesman, DCC Austin Njoku, confirmed the development.

He noted that former governor Orji Uzo Kalu was released from Kuje prison around 5:05pm on Wednesday, he went on to say that he was released after they received a court warrant.

When he was questioned about Kalu’s six month stay, he narrated that Kalu was in his best behaviour ever since he was in prison and did not trouble anyone.

Kalu was given a 12 year jail sentence in court on the 5th of December 2020, after he was convicted of 7.1 billion naira fraud along with his firm, Slok Nig. Ltd., and a former Director of Finance in Abia State, Jones Udeogu.

On the 8th of May, the Supreme Court considered the conviction null and void on the grounds that the presiding judge on the case had no jurisdiction.
