It was recently reported that the executive governor of Abia State has tested positive for Covid19.
John Kalu, the State Commissioner for Information, disclosed this in a statement today.
The commissioner noted that the governor has been quarantined ever since it was discovered, as it is part of the stated guidelines of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
He explained that on Saturday, 30th of May, 2020, the Abia State Governor volunteered his sample for it to be tested and thereafter ordered members of the state Executive Council and members of the ministerial committee on Covid19 to also carry out testing.
He said Governor Ikpeazu test result came back negative on Tuesday, 2nd of June, 2020.
He went on to say on Thursday, 4th June, 2020, Governor Ikpeazu submitted another sample to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control laboratory for test and unfortunately, the test results came back positive.
He said, based on the test result they got has influenced their decision for Governor Ikpeazu to self-isolate, instructed by the required NCDC guidelines, and the governor is being looked after by a competent team of medical practitioners with the hope of making him healthy again.
Finally, Mr. Kalu said that the governor has ordered his deputy, Ude Chukwu, to run the affairs of the state on his behalf until when he recovers and returns back to his duties.
