The National Association of Resident Doctors is the coordinating body for all doctors working in government medical institutions and has issued a strike notice, which will take effect on Monday, June 15, 2020. The association said the strike call also included doctors who took care of COVID-19 patients and other emergencies.
NARD’s National President Dr. Aliyu Sokomba mentioned this in a formal letter, reference number NARD/SG/2019-2020/070620/246. President NARD stated that regardless of the current pandemic, the strike was complete. Sokoba said that the action has become necessary because the government has failed to deliver on its promises, especially with regard to wage arrears and working conditions.
Part of the letter reads: “Therefore, the strike should be complete and indefinite. Removal of any form of service, whether emergency or emergency, at the COVID-19 treatment center, its members include all resident doctors, key medical personnel The following medical staff and internal staff should participate in the strike.” While sympathizing with Nigerians and the entire patient, the doctors said they could no longer tolerate the government’s negligence. NARD said that its members are sometimes in a worse situation than state agencies.
