Chuks Okocha, Adedayo Akinwale in Abuja, Adibe Emenyonu in Benin and Kemi Olaitan in Ibadan University of Ibadan (UI), the alma mater of Mr. Godwin, Governor of Edo Prefecture On Wednesday, Nogheghase Obaseki ended the controversy over the governor’s certificate and announced that he attended the premier university in the United States and graduated in 1979. UI said in a statement from its Registrar, Ms. Olubunmi O Faluyi, that Obese was admitted to the university in 1976 to study classic courses and graduated with a lower second-class honor in 1979.
Obaseki said in his response to certificate certification that future generations will always maintain justice. The governor, who is seeking a second term on the APC platform, has repeatedly been accused of possessing cunning qualifications. The party chief and others have been questioning his qualifications.
The inconsistency mentioned in the Obaseki certificate is that his O/Level results show that he has 3 credits, although he allegedly took only 3 years to obtain the University of Ibadan from 1976 at the University of Ibadan Bachelor of Arts, but no A/Level results. The three-year direct entrance course at the University of Nigeria must reach A/Level. Questioning the qualifications of Obaseki was the consequence of the crisis in the party-state chapter that brought the governor into conflict with APC President Adams Oshiomhole.
The party screened Obeki and four others before the June 22 primary election. The UI said in a statement that the governor’s record of his enrollment and graduation is complete in his university file. However, despite the clarification of the university, the governor’s trouble does not seem to be over, because some party leaders said he still has an answer to the affidavit he submitted to INEC through the party, claiming that he graduated from UI in 1976 and 1979. UI confirmed yesterday that it was the year he graduated.
Obaseki allegedly stated in his affidavit that he entered UI in 1973 and graduated in 1976. Party sources told TROPICS that the affidavit is still a problem and only the governor can solve it because it borders on perjury. In the petition to the Chairman of the Edo State Governor’s Election Review Committee, some members of the Standing Committee of the State People’s Congress, Mr. Edbor Williams, Uganda Godwin, and Mr. Amidu Anako Said the Abuja High Court.
In response to a request from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the party suspected wrongdoing in the document submitted to INEC in 2016. In a letter to the PDP on September 28, 2016, “the false content has clearly established The affidavit of Godwin Obaseki, which disqualified him from participating.”
