Hadiza Gajere, a middle aged woman of Yamalamai ward in Faskari Local Government of Katsina state in Friday escaped from her abductors after staying six weeks in the hands of bandits.
She was abducted by armed bandits in the presence of her husband.
Hadiza was taken to the office of the State Secretary, Mustapha Inuwa, on Friday night around 11pm by the commander, 17th Brigade, Brigadier-General B. Idris together with some officers from the National Intelligence Agency, who is said to have intercepted her in Gusau, Zamfara State.
While receiving Hadiza, the SSG, said that the state government was bothered the continuous attack by bandits in some parts of the state.
Mrs Hadiza, who narrated the suffering she went through, says she was kidnapped by five gun men, each with an AK-47 rifle, invaded her house at Unguwar Bajida village of Yarmalamai ward and abducted her in the presence of her husband.
She explained that she spent 42 days in the bandit’s camp because her family could not afford the ransom fee of N5 million.
Hadiza also disclosed that one day, when her husband made a phone call to negotiate the ransom with the bandits, he told them he could only afford N250, 000 only, which he has to pay but he was told if he could not raise the money, he should not call them again.
She revealed that she met some other abductees, a lady and three others were released a few weeks ago after their families paid the ransom.
Hadiza said she escaped from her captors on Friday when they left only one bandit on guard, adding that luckily the bandit on guard slept off.
After she escaped, she began to wander around in the bush until she met some people who took her to the security agents in Gusau.
Abdullahi Yar’adua, who is the Director of press to the SSG, affirmed the development through a statement made public on Saturday.
