Aso Villa Shooting: Aisha’s ADC, riot police, escort commander may face panel

Usman Shugaba who was involved in the shooting at the Aso Villa, the aide De camp of the First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, and other of her security agents will be the main agenda discussed on Monday’s meeting at the Aso Villa.

It was reported that the First Lady security aides would face an investigative panel that will be headed by the leadership of the police.

It was also understood that the affected security agents would not be reassigned to the wife of the President following their involvement in an altercation with Sabiu Yusuf, the nephew and personal assistant of the Vice President also known as Tunde, last week Thursday, at the Presidential Villa.

The problem began on Thursday night When Mrs. Aisha Buhari and her three children – Yusuf, Halima, and Zahra along with some of her security aides, together with Shugaba stormed the residence of Yusuf at the Pilot Gate, house 8 of the Presidential Villa.

They demanded that Yusuf, who is just back from Lagos, should go on self-isolation for 14 days, to protect the President and his family from coronavirus.

Yusuf had visited his wife in Lagos who had just recently put to bed.

The situation escalated when the First Lady’s ADC, in an attempt to arrest Yusuf allegedly fired some gunshots in the premises.

After the gunshot, Yusuf ran away to hide in a nearby residence of his uncle, Mamman Daura who is also Buhari’s nephew.

In a report, The Inspector General of Police stated that after receiving a security report at the Aso Villa, he immediately directed the arrest of the ADC to Aisha Buhari and other security aides, who followed her to Yusuf’s residence.

Apart from the ADC, the escorts commanders, and a superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sheriff Kazeem, who is the son of the former IG Hafiz Ringin, and four other riot policemen who were at the scene were all arrested. They have been kept in custody since Friday morning.

It was reported that the incident will be top on the agenda in the weekly meeting of the police management team which will be headed by the Inspector General of Police, at the force headquarters in Abuja, today.

A source explained that the shooting at the Aso Villa is not allowed under any law. He said it is a serious violation that shouldn’t have happened and it is the reason why the IGP gave the order to arrest those officers involved. He said those involved will face an investigative panel, and if they are found guilty, they will be redeployed or demoted.

It was understood that Shugaba fired gunshots in the air when Yusuf jumped a locked gate in an attempt to escape. Yusuf explained the incident to Daura who informed President Buhari, who was very angry and complained to the Inspector General of Police.

However, as the situation is right now the officers involve can’t go back to the Aso Villa and they will be punished by demoting them or face redeployment to other formation. The source said this kind of attack attracts serious punishment and demotion.

DCP Frank Mba, the Force PRO, couldn’t be reached for comment as he did not answer any of his calls.

It was gathered that Shaugaba started working with Aisha Buhari 3 months ago.

It was discovered that Shugaba was the Chief Security Officer to the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello before he was redeployed to the villa as the Aide de Camp to Aisha Buhari.

Shugaba denied firing any shots, saying that the shot was fired by a DSS official.
