The federal government says it will expand its subsidy to the poor by using technology including BVN’s bank account to send out loans to the needy.

The Minister of Support and Welfare, Sadiya Farouq, made this known in Abuja on Tuesday, as she addressed the inquiry of the Presidential Committee on the Coalition to Prevent the spread of Koronavirus in Nigeria.

CHANNELSTV says it will use the technology to provide this support, saying it would be easier to reach the poor without the hassle.

She said; “We are using BVN and phone numbers to identify low-income people in the community as a result of this assistance.” She says.

The minister said; Their system is much faster, and more transparent, and easier to research and distribute.

But she confirmed that their house-to-house distribution of funds to the poor in other parts of the country was itself being strictly regulated, and that she was moving in the right direction. She also said that the federal government has taken all necessary steps to ensure that the subsidy is not repeated for one home.

And she confirmed that; They are using the Kings and other civil society groups to retrieve the poorest.
