The All Progressive Congress National Chairmanship saga took another spin when on Tuesday armed police men stormed its national secretariat to prevent an outbreak of violence.
The Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, disclosed that as part as part of its effort to prevent violence, it contacted the members of the PAC national working committee.
Meanwhile, the crisis in the ruling party has worsened as the suspended deputy national secretary, Victor Giadom, scheduled the party’s National Executive Committee meeting for Thursday.
The NWC stated that having suspended Giadom from the party, he was deemed not fit to call for the meeting.
The leadership in the party escalated on Tuesday last week when the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja upheld the ruling suspending the party’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, by a lower court back in March.
On that same day, 17 members of the NWC called for an emergency meeting and chose Senator Abiola Ajimobi who is the immediate past Governor of Oyo State.
Meanwhile, Giadom the following day, announced a Marched judgment of the High Court of the FCT and declared himself as the acting chairman.
Ever since Giadom has returned to the court, which further extended its order to two weeks.
The Deputy National Secretary was on Monday prevented by the River State High Court from announcing himself as the acting national chairman.
The Ajimobi led faction has also replaced Giadom with Worgu Boms. He was nominated by the South-Siuth chapter of the party for the position of deputy national secretary.
It was understood that IGP’s meeting, which was held at the police force headquarters, was even at the instance of the Ajimobi led faction.
A party leader who was in attendance, said that the meeting was actually at the request if the party. He said said they went to see him as a result of the growing need for security. He said they they are trying to prevent some party members who in the guise of being aggrieved destroy public property.
The meeting which took off by 1pm was concluded at 2pm.
However, by 9am on Tuesday, armed policemen, who they were acting based on the order from above, stormed the APC national secretariat and directed staff and journalist to vacate the building. The policemen were at the secretariat till 2pm when they left the premises.
