Facebook announced on Thursday that it will introduce a notification screen alerting users if they try to share content that is more than 90 days old. From the report:
They will have the option of “coming back” or clicking if they still want to share the story, knowing it is not fresh. Facebook admitted that old stories shared outside their original context play a role in spreading misinformation, and the social media company said “in particular news publishers” are concerned about the redistribution of old stories as if they were news of the last moment. “Over the past few months, our internal research has shown that the topicality of the article is an important context that helps people decide what to read, trust and share,” John Hegeman, Vice President of Facebook Channels and History, wrote in the blog.
