Five private hospitals have been closed down by the Oyo state government in Saki and Ibadan over the breaking of recommended and standard practices.

The Commissioner of health for Oyo state, Mr. Bashiru Bello, who is the head of the state task force on private health facilities, have closed down the clinics on the grounds of engaging quacks as medical doctors, the use of unapproved premises and the inability on the part if the owners to obey other rules guiding the medical profession.

Mr. Bashiru Bello said, he was worried over the behaviour of the owners, saying the government will not condone quacks in the sector.

He said Oyo State would continue to encourage good practices with the hope of ensuring quality health care delivery.

The state health commissioner who was represented by the Director of Secondary Health Care and Training at the state Health Ministry, Wale Falana, during the inspection expressed that the people practising quakery are killing innocent patients. He said they weren’t qualified. He also said the environment was not conducive, there is a absence of scientific orientation and they are just doing as they please and endangering people’s lives in the process.

He said when they went to Saki, one of the quacks was using a room where people live.

He said that one of the pillar of this administration is health and they will not fail in the quest to improve the health sector in the state.

He noted that they need to ensure that people are well looked after by qualified doctors with good medical facilities.
