The Ajaokuta Kaduna – Kano to pump 2.2 Billion cubic standard feet of gas daily




In the Federal government quest to diversify the economy and utilize the country’s large gas reserve, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has assured Nigerians that Ajaokuta – Kaduna – Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project will add approximately 2.2 billion Standard cubic feet (scf) daily to the nation’s domestic market.

According to the Sun Newspaper, the group Managing Director of NNPC Mallam Mele Kyari, said this at the opening ceremony of the project on Tuesday in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. In his words he said “upon completion, the project will enable the injection of 2.2 bscf per day and will facilitate additional power generation capacity of 3,600MW”.

He further says when completed, the project will enhance and bring to bare the change in power generation and industrial growth in Nigeria. Kyari also applaud the President Muhammadu Buhari for his giant stride towards the project adding that it wouldn’t have been realized emphasizing the fact that the project is inline with the President’s agenda to see that the non oil sector receives a boost so as to generate additional revenues for the nation.

Kyari said the NNPC is putting effort in the direction of becoming an Integrated Energy Company in order to accommodate the President’s effort of strategizing the nation’s economiy, this the NNPC will achieve by following the National Gas Infrastructure Blueprint through the expansion of the NNPC’s gas footprint.

Kyari explained that the AAK gas pipeline project is inline with the trans Nigeria gas pipeline project which is to connect network of gas pipeline that will merge the Northern part of the country with the South – south, Eastern and Western parts of the country. He said all approvals and conditions for the project have been met.

Lastly Kyari expressed confidence on the EPC contractors to give a quality and timely delivery of project.

Similarly, the Governor of the state Yahaya Bello appreciated the effort of the President and is keen towards seeing the completion of the project, in his speech he said the project will grow the country’s economy.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream, Senator Bassey Akpan also expressed confidence in the NNPC and other partners that the project will be delivered within the stipulated time, and the project will create employment. He added that the financial pattern of the project makes it possible to kick off without delay.
