I made more money as a professor than a minister – Pantami

The current Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Mallam Isa Pantami, said his salary and allowances as a minister cannot be compared with what he was earning as a professor at the International University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

Pantami mentioned this while reacting to online reports that he bought three houses since he resumed office just a year ago.

Based on the statement given on Friday by his spokesman, Uwa Suleiman, he said that he only came back to Nigeria to serve his country when he was called upon which is a sign of patriotism and selfless service.

The minister expressed in a statement that with the aim of setting the record straight, he has not bought a single property anywhere in the world, since the time he has been in office as a minister. He said that one of the images published is a building he has been an occupant of since 2017, which has been more than two years before becoming the minister, he also said the other apartment is the one he rented since on the 17th of December 2019, he said two of the pictures shown are not even known to him.

He said in the statement that him as a serving minister with the salaries and allowances that he is receiving cannot be compared with what he was earning as a professor at the International University if Madinah, Saudi Arabia, where he appears to be the first Nigerian to lecture at such a level. He stated that he only came back to Nigeria in order to contribute to national development.

It was said in the statement also, that Dr. Pantami is one of the few Nigerians who is driven by nothing, but a sense of patriotism to only serve his fatherland as shown by his act of sacrifice, to respond to the call to serve his country and to contribute to national development.
