The deputy governor of Ondo State, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, has announced that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu must adhere to the provisions of the constitution by handing over to him if he continues to remain in isolation after 21 days.
Akeredolu was recently tested positive for coronavirus and has since been in isolation.
The governor through his state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Donald Ojogo, on Friday, said the governor does not intend to hand over to his deputy, who has left the APC.
But the media aide of the deputy governor, Mr. Allen Sowore, on Saturday, stated that the deputy governor has been praying for the quick recovery of the governor but he said the constitution had to be adhered to.
He quoted section 190(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), Sowore said the constitution was the opposite if what Governor Akeredolu is trying to do and he insisted that the he must have to handover to the deputy after 21 days.
Sowore said if the governor fails or refuse to handover powers to the deputy governor it will be in contravention with what has been stated in the constitution which the governor have sworn to uphold.
He said the governor is trying to run the administration of the government while in isolation, which is not ideal. He advise in a statement that the energy the governor is using to bring the deputy governor down from office should be channelled towards ensuring that the health sector in the state which includes the strike action taken by medical practitioners should be resolved.
However, the governor has denied a media report allegedly linking him with branded bottles of whiskey as part of his campaign for his second term re-election.
The image which shows the bottle of whiskey showing the Ondo State logo and labelled ‘Aketi Whiskey’ had been trending all over the media.
The governor said he knew nothing about the images of the whiskey, he alleged that his political detractors were scheming to blackmail him.
