Hon. Sokonte Davies, who is the factional Acting Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Caretaker Committee in River State, has urged Governor Nyesom Wike to reopen market in the state.
It was reported that yesterday, market women who paid a visit to Mr. Davies at the party’s secretariat, expressed their plight and in response the Acting Chairman said he is aware of their situation and he knows how hard it is for them to look after their children in this hard times.
He mentioned that the continued lockdown order of market places has become an obstacle of the expansion of commerce and trade, both of which he said had affected the economy of River State.
He said despite the lockdown the lockdown which was implemented across the country, most states had found other ways of making their people to observe social distancing and allowing them to have access to their markets.
Base on the lamentation of the market women the APC Acting Chairman had urged Governor Wike to consider the condition of the traders and the people, saying there was no need for the lockdown to continue at this time.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Market Women Association in the state, Mrs. Nonju, had before said traders were experiencing hardship as a result of the continued lockdown which has really affected their sources if income.
She said they went to the party secretariat to thank the good effort that the APC leaders doing to rebuild the APC, stressing that the absence of a good opposition has destroyed the welfare and interest of the people of River state.
