The Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar Adamu, said the video which went viral was accredited to the ” Nigerian Dream.” The video showed a police officer maltreating a man in clear violation of his rights, dignity and freedom.
The IGP condemned the inhumane act of the video that showed a security officer stamping his feet on the neck and head of an innocent civilian on the floor.
The IGP said the video was cross checked and examined and came to the conclusion that the violent act did not take place anywhere at anytime in Nigeria.
He said they critically checked the vehicle on the scene of the incident and discovered that the vehicle is not commonly used in Nigeria and the vehicle does not have the plate number pattern of Nigeria. Though he said the man in Uniform looked like a private guard that can be seen anywhere.
He said the man in uniform is certainly not an officer of the Nigeria Police Force and the language spoken in the video does not sound familiar with any of the Nigerian languages.
Meanwhile, the IGP urged citizens to disregard the video and said who ever might have uploaded the video is trying to stir up ill feelings towards security agencies in Nigeria.
He said the Nigeria Police Force is committed to always respect and uphold the rights of every Nigerian citizen.
