These Senate resolutions followed the third reading and approval of “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Penal Code Act CAP. C.38, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.”
The bill sponsored by Senator Oluremi Tinubu (Lagos Central) seeks to remove the statute of limitation on corruption, increase the punishment for the crime of kidnapping and remove gender restrictions on the crime of rape and other related issues.
The bill also removed the current time frame for reporting and prosecuting corruption cases in the country.
It also removed gender restrictions on the crime of rape by explaining that both men and women could be raped.
