Two men prosecuted for allegedly stealing 15 crates of egg

In Yaba, a Chief Magistrate in court on Monday directed that two men who was accused of stealing 15 crates of egg, be detained in a correctional facility for 30 days, until when there is a legal advice.
The men charged by police are Lucky Sunday 27, and Lukman Ogunleye, 23, who is a furniture maker was charged with two counts of conspiracy and robbery.
The two defendants pleaded with the court for mercy but the court did not heed to their plea as a result of the nature of the offence.
Chief Magistrate A.O Adebayo directed that Mr. Sunday and Ogunleye be detained in Ikoyi Custodian Centre for 30 days.
Meanwhile, the Chief Magistrate ordered the police to duplicate the case file and forward it to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The Chief Magistrate adjourned the hearing until August 24.
ASP Ronan Unuigbe, who is the prosecutor, explained to the court that they both committed the offence on June 25, about 7:45 p.m at Arobadede Street, Bariga, Lagos.
He further narrated that the two defendants planned with others at large and stole 15 crates of eggs from one Mr. Salisu. They also stole his Qur’an and Tecno phone all valued at N30,000.
The Prosecutor said the two defendants were armed with machetes and a gun.
He stated that the offence contravened the provision of section 298 (1) (2) (a) 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
