Wednesday 22nd July, 2020 will always be a date the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate Eyitayo Jegede will not forget in a hurry, as it marks yet another stepping stone towards his political journey.
Jegede emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate following the primary elections that was held at the International Event Center Dome in the state capital, Akure, on Wednesday July 22nd, 2020, defeating seven other candidates contesting for the election.
Jegede who returned as the winner at the end of the election, came out victoriously with 888 poles defeating his closest opponent Hon. Agboola Ajayi, the deputy Governor of the state who got 657 votes.
Other aspirants vying for the party’s primaries are Eddy olafeso with 175 votes, followed by Bode Ayorinde, 95 votes, Banji Okunomo, 90 votes, Boluwaji Kunlere, 33 votes Ebiseni Sola, 29 votes and Godday Erewa who got 14 votes.
Accreditation of the 2,111 delegates across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state commenced at about 1:00pm while the voting kicks off at 2:25pm with all the delegates casting their votes. At the end of election, all the party’s supporters waited for the poles to be counted and the result declared before vacating the venue.
It could be recalled that this wasn’t the first time Jegede is representing the party as it governorship candidate, as in 2016 he was the party’s governorship flag bearer but loss to the present Governor of the state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
The Ondo State governorship election which has been slated for October 10th 2020, will have Eyitayo Jegede contesting against Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu amongst many other candidates representing their various parties.
It will be worth saying that prior to Jegede’s political career, he was a onetime Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of Ondo State.
