The Nigerian communication Commission (NCC), a body responsible for coordinating and controlling the country’s communication has on Thursday 23rd July, 2020 commissioned the Kaduna Emergency Communication Centre (ECC) together with five other Information Technology projects.
The Emergency Communication Centre, (ECC), is a project embarked upon by the NCC in order to allow residents of Kaduna dial the Emergency Number 112 during emergencies to seek for help.
The project which was commissioned by the Communications Minister, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami happens to be a project from the ministry and other IT agencies under the ministry.
Other projects commissioned by the Minister aside the Kaduna ECC were: The Tertiary Institution Knowledge Centre (TIKC) at the Enugu State Polytechnic Iwollo which was handled by the Universal Provision Fund (USPF) of the NCC.
The Information Technology Community Centre in Katsina, Information Technology Hub in Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria main campus Kaduna and that of the University of Lagos were also projects commissioned under the NCC’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
In its quest to digitize the economy, the NCC has built 36 ECC across the federation with one from each state, out of which 19 have been activated already.
The Deputy Manager, Public Affairs of the Commission, Kunle Azeez, said the Nigeria Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) was among the IT projects commissioned in its North – West Regional Office in Kaduna, thus, bringing the total number of projects commissioned by the NCC to six.
The Communications Minister who was speaking at the event on Thursday, said “These projects are connected to some of the pillars of the NDEPS, especially with respect to developmental regulation, digital literacy and skills, solid infrastructure among others”. He urged Nigerians to take every opportunity that the projects presents since they are the benefactors.
Similarly, the NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta alongside other heads of agencies under the ministry applauded the Minister for promoting synergy among the various agencies under his care. He also said these projects will help pave a way for the country into the digital economy.
