A Boko Haram fighter who surrendered and currently in custody of the Multinational Joint Task Force, has explained that a factional leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, while in the forest said that the Federal Government was not trustworthy and they were cheated.
According to the MNJTF on Friday, stated that Shekau was more bad than those he criticised and he was delighted to have escaped from the sect.
In a press release by the MNJTF Chief of Public Information, Colonel Timothy Antigha, he said 47 Boko Haram fighters surrendered with their families to sector 1 of the force.
The terrorist who surrendered, spoke about Shekau whose name is hidden, confessed to have participated in different operations in Banki, Fotokol, Gamboru Ngala, New Marte, Chikun Guru, among others.
He explained, “They told us that we were being lied to and cheated by apostate governments, but I have not seen any difference between Shekau and those he has been condemning. He may even be worse than them. I am having it a lot better here because since we came out of the bush, we have been fed and catered for.”
In the statement issued, another terrorist who surrendered said, “If you do not speak a particular language, you cannot be appointed a commander or made a guard in the bush. He (Abubakar Shekau) also said that you couldn’t even be allowed to go for tax collection. This discriminatory attitude made some of us feel that we were not trusted and good enough to be given responsibilities.”
A female member of the terrorist group complained of the severe abuse of women in the camp of the terrorists and she prayed that no woman should experience the sort of situation she escaped from.
The spokesperson of the military, Antigha, said, “The MNJTF renews the call on other misled fighters in the bush to come out. It is important to add that MNJTF troops contributing countries have structures and programmes in place to receive all those who surrender.”
