A national unity government to be formed in Mali

The Malian government is on the verge of forming a unity government as recommended by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), saying its new ministers will hold talks with the parties concerned to see if they can join the new government.

This comes after a meeting of ECOWAS leaders that approved a number of resolutions, including the formation of a unity government and the removal of 31 disputed members of parliament over their election victory.

The UN Security Council has expressed support for the position taken by ECOWAS leaders, urging the parties political factions in Mali to respect respect it.
