Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has said his government has done its best to fight Boko Haram in the north-east, adding that Nigerians have witnessed its effort.
Buhari made the remarks while addressing newsmen at the Aso Villa in Abuja during the Eid-ul-Fitr festival on Friday.
However, President Buhari expressed dissatisfaction with the security situation in north-central and northwestern Nigeria, saying that the security agencies could address the challenges beyond their current efforts.
The Nigerian president’s remarks come a day after an attack that killed at least five people in Maiduguri on Thursday, in which Boko Haram militants are believed to have detonated explosives in Gwange, Customs and Mairi.
Also on Wednesday, Boko Haram militants attacked a delegation from Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, as they were visiting Baga and Munguno towns on Wednesday to distribute aid, but the militants’ efforts were unsuccessful.
