Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has said that some of the officials he has given the presidency have betrayed him.
Buhari made the remarks while addressing newsmen in Abuja after the Eid prayers on Friday, vowing to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations against leaders and senior officials of some of his government agencies. including NDDC and EFCC.
This is the first time that the Nigerian president has commented on the investigation into the embezzlement of funds and assets at the Niger Delta Development Corporation (NDDC) headed by former Akwa Ibom governor Godswill Akpabio, and the suspended EFCC anti-corruption chairman Ibrahim Magu. accused of embezzling large sums of money and recovered stolen property, an allegation that continues to be denied.
The commission of inquiry set up by the Nigerian government and headed by Ayo Salami, the former chairman of the Nigerian Court of Appeal, is still investigating the allegations against Magu.
More than N40 billion was missing from the NDDC, which prompted President Buhari to set up a committee to investigate the NDDc’s performance from 2001 to 2019.
The House of Representatives has already launched an investigation into the NDDC scandal, which has sparked controversy in recent days, after the chairman of the commission, Godswill Akpabio, was told to publish the names of some members of parliament who he said benefited from the contracts he awarded.
