A picture of an afghan teenager has been circulating on social media in recent days.
A young Afghan girl named Qamar Gul has been praised on social media for her skills in the fight against two Taliban militants who killed her parents.
The girl used an AK-47 assault rifle to kill two insurgents and wounded several others, according to officials in Ghor County.
Officials added that the Taliban had gone to the house because the girl’s father was supporting the government.
More militants later attacked the village of Griwa but were repulsed by locals and government-backed fighters.
Officials say the teenagers, aged between 14 and 16, and her younger sister have already been taken to another location for protection.
Social media users have hailed the young woman.
“We commend her for her bravery,” Najiba Rahmi was quoted as saying by AFP.
“We know it is not possible to replace a parent but your response will give you some peace of mind,” Mohamed Saleh also said on Facebook.
According to local media, Ghor is one of the most underdeveloped provinces in Afghanistan’s western provinces and women in the region are often subjected to violence.
The Taliban signed a peace deal with the United States in February but many of its members continue to demand the overthrow of the incumbent Afghan government and the repeal of its constitution.
