The Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe has announced his resignation saying that he does not want his illness to affect decision making. He also apologised to the people of Japan being unable to finish his term in office.
Shinzo Abe, 65,who said his health condition had worsened, have long suffered from ulcerative colitis, which is an inflammatory bowel disease.
He has been the longest serving Prime Minister since being elected as MP back in 2012.
It was said that in 2007, he suddenly resigned from an earlier term as Prime Minister sitting problems of ulcerative colitis, a chronic condition he has lived with since he became a teenager.
Mr. Abe is known to be a strong conservative and nationalist and he’s also known for stimulating Japan’s economic growth with his aggressive economic policy popularly called Abenomics.
Some other things he had achieved during his term in office include strengthening Japan’s defences by increasing military spending.
One thing he has been unable to do is to revise the constitution’s pacifist Article 9, which bans a standing army for anything other than self defence.
