This year’s MTV Video Music Awards looks quite different because of the pandemic, but the nominees and winners are still deserving of the plaudits.

On Sunday night’s show, Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga had nine nominations each, one of which they won the best video of the year award for their song “Rain On Me.”

They both showed they were impossible to beat, with multiple wins under their belt. Lady Gaga also made history by winning her first ever Tricon Award.

Meanwhile, other notable winners include The Weekend, Doja Cat, BTS, BLACKPINK, Machine Gun Kelly and Coldplay.

Because of the pandemic, celebrities didn’t converge at the Barclays Center in New York City, as was originally planned. Rather, the artists joined from their respective hubs across the country, with Keke Palmer leading point as hostess.
