Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty has been arrested by the India’s Narcotics Control Authority in a drug case in connection with the death of her actor boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput.

However, his family filed a complaint against Chakraborty and accused her of aiding and abetting suicide.

She have not yet made any statement, but have denied any wrongdoing in previous statements.

The authorities however, have not yet disclosed the allegations made against her.

Chakraborty’s brother, Showik, and former Rajput caretaker, Samuel Miranda, were also arrested last week in the same drug case. But the charges against them have not yet been revealed either.

The arrest of Chakraborty is the most prominent case in a case that has captivated and polarized India in recent months. Prime time television news reported on all the events and made the private lives of Rajput and Chakraborty a subject of public debate.

The couple reportedly began meeting in the summer of 2019 and moved in together in December. On June 8, a week before Rajput’s death, Chakraborty went to see his parents and was not at home when the actor died.

After his death, press reports indicated that he had been dealing with mental health issues.

But within days the focus shifted to Chakraborty, and the 28-year-old aspiring actress soon found herself at the center of a storm of accusations, conspiracy theories, rumors and unconfirmed reports.

Media attention increased after Rajput’s father filed a complaint against her. He denied that his son had psychological problems and accused Chakraborty, among other things, of stealing his son’s money.

For months Chakraborty has been trolled on social media. They called her a “fortune hunter” and “mafia moll” and accused her of making Rajput addicted to drugs and driving him to suicide.

She has appealed to the Supreme Court for what she believes is an “unfair media claim”. She made her own statement and gave television interviews, denying all charges against her.

She has given an appeal to Home Minister, Amit Shah for a fair investigation into Rajput’s death.
