Two Los Angeles police officers are in critical condition after being shot in a robbery that police are calling an ambush.
Video of the incident shows a figure approaching the officers’ vehicle before opening fire and fleeing.

Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva called the act “cowardly. The suspect is still at large.

In 2020, nearly 40 U.S. police officers were killed in the line of duty, eight of whom were ambushed, according to FBI statistics.

Protesters shouted anti-police slogans and blocked the entrance to the emergency room where the two officers are being treated, police and witnesses said.

The officers involved were not named, but were described as a 31-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man.

“A male and female police were ambushed while sitting in their patrol car. Both suffered multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition. Both are currently in surgery. The suspect is still at large,” Los Angeles County Sheriffs murmured.

“This is just a sad reminder that this is a dangerous job. Actions and words have consequences, and our job is not getting any easier because people don’t like law enforcement,” said Sheriff Villanueva.

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted about the recording of the incident: “Animals that need to be hit hard.

He has made law and order a central part of his re-election bid.

In response to the attack, California Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff said he would pray for the two officers
“Every day law enforcement officers put themselves at risk to protect our community,” he wrote. “I hope that the author of this cowardly attack can be quickly brought to justice.
