Ikpeazu convokes summit on Abiapoly

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, led the convening of a mini-summit of key stakeholders to find sustainable solutions to the challenges facing Abia State Polytechnic School in Aba, including the regular remuneration of workers and repositioning the institution to play a leading role in training the next generation of technologists who will be the drivers of innovation in the state and in Nigeria.

The governor who recently appointed a new rector for the institution expressed concern about the current operational structure which has impeded the regular fulfillment of the institution’s salary obligations and limited the tide of sustained union action by the institution’s workers’ union and invited the national president of the Polytechnic Academic Staff Union (ASUP), Comrade Anderson Ezeibe, his NASUP counterpart, and local union presidents and secretaries will join the institution’s management team, the State Department of Education and relevant government officials for a three-day summit to be held September 20-22, 2020, under the chairmanship of the governor.

According to Governor Ikpeazu, “we cannot allow the hemorrhage in Abiapoly to continue, because the institution is fundamental to the realization of our dream of leading the rest of the country in technological progress, as our ancestors did with “ikpu uzu”. It is therefore necessary that we sit down and collectively agree on a path that ensures that workers, students and other interested parties have the pleasure of contributing their fair share to the realization of the dreams that led to the creation of the institution”.
