In the run-up to Saturday’s gubernatorial elections in Edo state, the Popular Democratic Party, PDP, raised the alarm at the All Progressive Congress, APC, about an alleged conspiracy to rig the elections.
Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP’s national PR secretary, claimed that the APC was planning a frivolous lawsuit to rig the elections.
Ologbondiyan claimed that the defeat of the APC was imminent, hence the conspiracy to manipulate the election.
In a statement he made on Sunday, he sounded the alarm.
The PDP spokesman also claimed that the state opposition party had concluded plans to bring the political fringe parties to court in order to provoke a constitutional crisis.
Should the APC succeed, the party would cancel the election and pave the way for an unconstitutional state takeover.
The PDP spokesman also claimed that the APC would use political constraints to blackmail the judiciary and prevent elections.
Ologbondiyan said: “The People’s Democratic Party is sounding the alarm about conspiracies by certain interest groups recruited by the All Progressive Congress to prevent the September 19 gubernatorial elections in Edo with a frivolous lawsuit after the APC realized that it could not win the election.
