Protest in Osogbo over killing of youths alleged to be yahoo boys

Tropics Nigeria learnt that there was havoc in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Tuesday night when Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, pursued some youths who are suspected to be yahoo boys to death.

Although details of the pursuit were still incomplete at the time of this report, a reliable source said that the vehicle of the suspected internet fraudster was travelling from the Oba Adesoji Aderemi East-West Bypass in Osogbo and was chased into the the ditch by SARS operatives.

The accident, which occurred at about 5.30pm, sparked protests as the youths in the area were burning tyres in front of Government House, Oke Fia, shortly after the SARS operatives, who fired sporadically, managed to escape the scene.

According to reports, the four suspects were in a Toyota Corolla sports car.

One of the occupants was killed instantly and the other three were seriously injured.

Some of the angry youths later transported the deceased’s body and dumped it in front of the Government House, at Oke Fia.

According to unconfirmed reports, the two rescued from the scene of the accident later died before they could receive medical treatment.

However, sources said the suspected internet fraudsters were being pursued by SARS operatives at Osun Mall in Fakunle area of Osogbo before the car crashed along the Oba Adesoji-Aderemi East-West Bypass.

The angry youths later vandalised the SARS Toyota Hilux van in front of a popular supermarket in the Alekuwodo area.

When contacted, the Special Security Adviser to Governor Oyetola, Mrs. Abiodun Ige, who is overseeing the activities of the SARS, said she was yet to get full details on the incident.
