Youths protest in Bayelsa as they accuse SPDC of not providing employment for indegenes

Youths in Ekeremor LGA of Bayelsa State staged a protest on Thursday and shut down the flow station operated by the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria.

They accused the SPDC of not providing employment for indigenes and neglecting their community.

The oil rich Niger-Delta region have been neglected by the government over the years with oil companies in the region destroying their land and water as a result of oil spills and rendering the land barren for agriculture.

This has resulted in youth restiveness in the region and has led to militant groups like the Niger-Delta avengers to vandalise pipelines.

Also the corruption in the Niger Delta Development Commission,NDDC, has also negatively affected the development of the region.
