A woman released from NAPTIP custody kills her 7 years old stepson

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Kano State arrested Jamila Abubakar, a 29-year-old housewife, in connection with the murder of her stepson, Muhammad Bashir.

The regional commander of Kano NAPTIP, Shehu Umar, confirmed the arrest to journalist in Kano on Thursday.

He recalls that in recent months the agency has invited the suspect for alleged child abuse after he was rescued from the suspect few months ago.

The coordinator said. “We received information that the deceased, who was rescued a few months ago, was beaten to death by his stepmother.

“After receiving the information, NAPTIP officials took action and arrested the suspect.

He further stated that the preliminary investigation showed that the suspect locked the deceased in a room with no food when she left the house for work.

“The couple wrote an undertaking promising that the boy would no longer be locked inside the house,” promising to look after the child’s protection and welfare.

Umar added that the case has been referred to Kano Police Headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
