A stabbing attack took place in Paris, late Friday morning, in the 11th arrondissement, in front of the former premises of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. At least two people were injured, one of them seriously. A man was arrested.
An attack with knives – knife or machete took place on 25 September in Paris, around 11:30 in the street in front of the former headquarters of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. A security perimeter has been established in the area. At least two people were injured. Among them, an employee of the audiovisual production company Première lines Production.
A police intervention is underway in the area of Boulevard Richard-Lenoir, announced the police headquarters, which advises to avoid the area. “The police are extremely numerous and the tension is still high”, testifies Christophe Dansette, journalist of France 24 on the spot.
The neighborhood was cordoned off also because of the presence of a suspicious package. “The BRI [Research and Intervention Brigade] is mobilized”, specifies Christophe Dansette. Shortly after 1 p.m., the Prefecture, however, raised doubts and assured that there was no explosive device detected in the suspicious package.
A man was arrested in the Bastille district. “He was arrested at the exit of the Bastille metro, in front of the opera. He was covered in blood,” explains Christophe Dansette, according to information from a police source.
After the 2015 attack, Charlie Hebdo’s premises moved, but audiovisual production companies are still there, including Première Lines Production, which was already present in 2015 and provided the first images at the time.
At least one of its employees is injured. “One of our employees, who will surely be a number one witness, saw an assailant pursue another of our employees who was already injured,” journalist Élise Lucet testified on France 2.
“These journalists had experienced the attacks of January 7, 2015 and are still traumatized by this attack. They relive this nightmare a second time”, notes Christophe Dansette.
Thousands of students confined
“Thousands of students”, from nursery to high school, were confined as a precaution in three districts of central Paris, also indicated the mayor of Paris-Center, Ariel Weil.
“Five schools in the 11th district and all schools in the 3th and 4th districts were confined. It represents thousands of students, from kindergarten to high school. It cuts out. We’re closing equipment municipal buildings and gymnasiums too, ”Ariel Weil added.
Jean Castex in crisis unit in Beauvau
“A serious event has just occurred in Paris,” declared Prime Minister Jean Castex, who cut short a trip to Seine Saint-Denis to go to a crisis unit at the Ministry of the Interior, Place Beauvau.
“Under these conditions, I am obliged to go to the crisis center in Beauvau to make sure of the reality of the situation and its evolution”, underlined the head of government, shortening a trip to Pantin.
