Femi Gbajabiamila security aide was alleged to have shot dead a newspaper vendor in Abuja on Thursday. The newspaper vendor who was shot dead was identified as Ifeanyi Elechi.
Mr. Gbajabiamila identified the name of his aide who shot the vendor as Abdullahi Hassan and the official statement on Friday from the DSS said that Mr. Hassan has been detained.

The DSS also said they are currently investigating the matter in its statement which reads: “The attention of the Department of State Services has been drawn to the allegation of shooting and killing of one Ifeanyi Okereke by a security aide of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“The service hereby confirms that the suspect is one of its personnel deployed to the Speaker’s convoy as a security detail. And as already stated by the Speaker that he has been suspended from his convoy, the Service has further withdrawn him from the assignment.
“As part of its disciplinary procedures in the instance, he has been taken into detention. In addition, the Service has opened a detailed investigation into the matter. While it pledges to be transparent and accountable in handling this, it is liaising with appropriate authorities to achieve this objective.”
When and How It Happened
It was said that around 3pm on Thursday, Mr. Hassan shot dead the vendor on the forehead which caused panic around the Abuja Federal Secretariat and was immediately taken to the hospital by his brother and other police men at the scene of the incident, but eventually died in the hospital.
It was said that the incident took place when Mr. Ifeanyi and other vendors who were selling on the streets of Shehu Shagari way, at the Three Arms Zone, gathered around Mr. Gbajabiamila’s convoy, who was said to have developed a habit of giving out money to them whenever he passes through.
