Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is chairing an executive council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa in the capital, Abuja.
During the meeting, Buhari swore in Prof. Mahmud Yakubu as the chairman of INEC for the second time.
Traditionally, the meeting, which is held every Wednesday, is attended by all ministers and other senior government officials.
The president is expected to appear before the Nigerian House of Representatives on Thursday to brief them on the security situation in the country, especially in the North.
But on Tuesday, the president said they were working to provide the military with the weapons it needs to fight bandits and the Boko Haram militant group.
Following the meeting, the council will brief the media on key issues discussed in terms of development projects.
