The National Identity Management Commission has given a USSD code for the recovery of your National Identification Number.

The National Identity Management Commission has found a pragmatic method of recovering one’s National Identification Number (NIN) using a USSD code.

NIMC

The new revelation is contained in a verified tweet by the NIMC, and seen by TROPICS NIGERIA.

The Nigeria Communications Commission prior gave a fourteen-day ultimatum to telecom companies to block all SIM cards that are not enrolled with the National Identity Numbers, as previously reported by TROPICS NIGERIA.

Following the new order, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) asked the overall population to be careful with fraudsters and con artists who are lurking in the shadows to cheat clueless individuals. To evade this, NIMC encouraged the public not to tap or click on any mysterious link requesting for your NIN.

What you should know

According to the NCC directives, NIMC has asked general public and residents who have registered with NIMC but unfortunately lost their NIN to dial *346# to recover their NIN. The USSD code is accessible on MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile.

For those individuals whose SIM cards utilized was registered with NIN and have been redistributed, NIMC asked such individuals to visit the offices or sim registration points of their network providers to have their NIN merged with their present SIM card.

For name adjustment, people are encouraged to visit NIMC office and pay the sum of N500 using Remitta. Further breakdown indicated that for those adding or changing another name, should bring a court affidavit and a copy of a newspaper publication showing their change of name. In contrast, those with an incorrectly spelt name require no paper distribution.
