The former Wazirin Katsina, Prof Sani Abubakar Lugga, has explained why he respected the late President and former Katsina State governor, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, more than any other governor of the state.
Lugga, avowing that Yar’adua’s passion for the advancement of education was unrivalled, noted that the late president was responsible for the establishment of both Al Qalam and Katsina State universities.
Lugga disclosed this on Sunday at the 13th Annual Memorial Lecture held in honour of the late Nigerian President at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University’s auditorium.
The former Wazirin Katsina recalled how the late Yar’Adua, while serving as Governor of Katsina State, glorified primary and secondary school structures in the state to compete with those of tertiary institutions in some other states.
As part of activities to mark the 13th Annual Memorial Lecture in honour of the late President Yar’Adua, the guest speaker and President of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Development Centre, Dr Mutaqqha Rabe Darma, announced the launch of the “Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Accountability Watch” project.
According to Mutaqqha, the initiative is designed to hold elected officials in Katsina State accountable by ensuring that they prioritise the best interests of the people and unite them under a common purpose in order to catalyse the desired change in the state.
According to Mutaqqha: “Launching Katsina Accountability Watch, we pay homage to the ideals that defined Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s leadership. We aim to emulate his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people and his steadfast belief in transparency as the bedrock of a thriving society.
“By launching this organisation in his honour, we pledge to uphold the principles he held dear. The Katsina Accountability Watch will serve as a living testament to his legacy, a beacon that guides us in our pursuit of good governance and unwavering transparency.
“Through innovative online performance assessments, we will provide every citizen with a chance to evaluate the effectiveness of their leaders, ranging from senators to the governor. Our objective is to amplify the voices of the people and establish a robust system of checks and balances, promoting transparency and exemplary governance.”
