Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has appointed Chief Oyebode Aderonke Mary as the new Iyaloja General (head of market women) of Osogbo.
This is according to a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, and made available to DAILY POST on Thursday in Osogbo.
Approving her appointment, Governor Adeleke described the new Iyaloja General as “a strong leader of businesswomen in Osun State” who has contributed immensely to the growth and development of commerce.
“We approve her appointment with all sense of responsibility and confidence in her ability to pilot the affairs of women in commerce for the collective prosperity of Osun State,” the governor stated.
The statement also added that the inauguration of the new Iyaloja General will take place next week.
With this appointment, Chief Hawawu Adesinmade, the previous Iyaloja General and Iyalode of Osogboland ceases to occupy the office.
Chief Adesinmade had held sway as the leader of market women under the All Progressives Congress administrations of both Rauf Aregbesola and Adegboyega Oyetola.
The office under the APC was viewed as a political appointment, and many critics viewed Adesinmade’s headship of the Osun market women as abnormal since she was also a traditional title holder and leader of women in Osogboland.
