Some supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Jigawa State have staged a protest against an alleged plan by the party chieftains to impose a speaker of the 9th Assembly in the state.

The party supporters, in numbers, carrying placards with inscriptions “new governor, new speaker” and “we need justice,” staged the protest at the Government House and State House of Assembly.

Speaking during the protest, secretary of the APC North-West Youth Alliance for Good Governance, Jigawa State chapter, Adamu Muhammad Na’Allah, said the protest was to register their dismay and resistance over alleged plans by some of the state APC chieftains to impose the former speaker of the house, Rt. Idrith Garba Kareka as the leader of the 9th Assembly.

According to him, the main goal of the alliance was to promote good governance, through sustainable and rapid human and capital development.

“We shall use the visit to sensitize members-elect individuals with a passion for the state and capacity to collaborate with the executive to bring sustainable development to the state.

“We shall inform the legislatures on the need to allow internal cohesion to prevail in their quest for new leadership.”

He, however, advised the member elect to resist any temptation, intimidation, and coercion by external forces to undermine the process.

The 9th Assembly will be inaugurated this week.
