A former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Barrister Okoi Obono-Obla has called on Governor Bassey Otu not to be afraid of taking harder and bolder decisions that will revamp Cross River State.
In a statement on Sunday, Obono-Obla hailed the governor for cancelling the Cally Air agreement with Aero Contractors entered into by former Governor Ben Ayade which is believed to have been very controversial.
He said even though in one month as governor he has been taking what seems to be the right decisions as a way of laying a foundation for him to effect change in the entire structure of the State’s administrative and political governance, the people are yearning for more decisions.
“I charge him to continue to take robust, bold and courageous decisions that will deepen the change we all desire and yearn for the State to revamp, rejuvenate and reform the public service of the State and restore it to previous years.
“I commend him strongly for the bold decision to cancel the opaque Cally Air Concession agreement with Aero Contractors and also his constitution of a Committee to take inventory of concessionaire agreements entered with various concessionaires to manage industries belonging to the State government,” he said.
He also called on Otu to reform and reposition the ruling party, APC, as a way of redressing the alleged injustice and marginalization of certain groups.
He said the recent directives by the State party executive committee that wards should make nominations of possible candidates for appointments and empowerment had allegedly been hijacked.
According to him, “this is dangerous for the governor and the party, if he does not act immediately and decisively.”
