See NYSC as your call to service — Osun gov Adeleke to Corps members

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has reminded members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in the state to see their deployment as a call to service.

Governor Adeleke who called on the youth corps members to stay true to the national pledge and oath of allegiance urged them to always channel their grievances through constitutionally accepted means.

He also charged them to always see themselves as role models the younger generation.

The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Kola Adewusi made this known during the swearing-in and official opening of the 2023 Batch B Stream one orientation course at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ede on Friday.

He said, ” I want you to know that you are dear to the government and our nation That is why the government continues to fund the NYSC Scheme as a way of reaching out to you, showing you it cares and is keenly interested in your empowerment and well-being. I want you to justify the trust reposed in you by the nation and your family by being law abiding and remaining as good ambassadors of your institutions, family, geopolitical zone and the nation.

“Furthermore, I implore you to embrace one another’s differences. Make friends and relate freely with one another cherishing and respecting your differences while diligently discovering your similarities. See and treat the person next to you as your brother and your sister and the people of the State as your family. Also, ensure that you abide by the rules and regulations of the Camp as this will help you to make the most of your Orientation experience. I assure you that my Government will continue to support the NYSC Scheme in the state in ensuring your welfare and safety during the service year. I want you to let go of all negative preconceptions which are capable of maring the fun of the service year.

“Dear Compatriots in service, I urge you to join us to make our economy bigger and stronger by embracing skills acquisition and entrepreneurship. Be creative and innovative as graduates. Do not only think of consuming but rather begin to think of what you can produce or offer as a solution to human needs and problems. Imbibe the mindset of an entrepreneur and tow the path of diligence, hardwork and industry, which is the key to lasting success and prosperity.”

Adeleke also advised the corps members to obey all rules and regulations and be law-abiding citizens, also tasked them to embrace peaceful coexistence and not indulge in frivolities and exuberances associated with modern youths.

The Osun NYSC State Coordinator, Agbor Ndoma Obim in his address revealed that as at midnight Thursday, a total of 1,361 corps members have been registered out of which 749 are males and 612 are females.

He said the 550 others dislodged from Lagos to the state have also been registered so far.

The Osun NYSC boss also appreciated the state government for giving the NYSC permanent orientation camp a facelift.

He charged the corps members to sustain the relevance of the scheme by committing themselves to hard work, patriotic service and community development service.

“I urge you to work towards distinguishing yourselves during the service year as the Scheme has a system of rewarding hardwork and diligence.”
