The Emir of Ningi Emirate in Bauchi State, Alhaji (Dr) Yunusa Muhammadu Dan Yaya, has alleged that some traditional rulers are conniving with kidnappers to terrorise residents of the area.

He said kidnapping has become a lucrative business to the extent that the traditional rulers now invite their relatives to the emirate to abduct residents.

DAILY POST reports that several cases of kidnapping have been recorded in parts of Bauchi State in recent times.

As a result of the development, peasant farmers, who are mostly affected, are now afraid of going to their farms.

The Emir made the allegation on Friday, when he summoned traditional rulers, including heads of over 1000 wards, to his palace.

The meeting deliberated on the high level of insecurity in the emirate.

Dan Yaya said intelligence reports at his disposal showed that some unpatriotic ward heads are collaborating with criminals to perpetrate all sorts of criminal activities.

He warned that he would not hesitate to dethrone anyone found to be engaged in the act, adding that henceforth a proper screening will be conducted to profile all the ward heads in order to fish out the bad eggs amongst them.

Dan Yaya further warned those involved in the criminal activities to stop before the law catches up with them, stressing that anyone implicated will not be spared.

In his remarks, the Caretaker Chairman of Ningi Local Government Area, Hon. Ibrahim Zubairu, explained that the Council, in collaboration with security operatives, had embarked on sensitization campaigns in different communities to enlighten residents on their role in curbing criminal activities.

The chairman promised that no stone would be left unturned in the quest to address insecurity in the area.
